Hey everyone, it's Zsolt here. Welcome to Visual PKM! I launched the Visual Thinking Workshop just over two years ago, and it has been a source of joy beyond my dreams. In October last year, to celebrate the workshop's second birthday, I launched the Visual Thinking Workshop self-paced course. The self-paced course is a life-changing learning experience with 71 lessons and over 12 and a half hours of recorded content. It is truly a no-nonsense, hands-on course that comes with a demo Obsidian vault that includes six full book-on-a-page examples, almost 400 icons, templates, sample Zettelkasten cards, and so much more. The course is about visual PKM and visual thinking, but while I made every effort to make the course tool-agnostic, I have to admit that I developed the course and my PKM workflows based on Obsidian MD and the Excalidraw and Excalibrain plugins. So even if you're not an Obsidian or Excalidraw user, I'd recommend giving these tools a try as you go through the workshop. Of course, you can always return to your old tools if you want after the workshop, but at the heart of the course are not the tools but the mindset framework consisting of 35 cards, each covering a different visual PKM tool, practice, or workflow, condensing my best practice experience of almost three decades of note-taking. The self-paced course demonstrates the mindset through the case study of "The Extended Mind" by Annie Murphy Paul. The self-paced course is just the first step in our journey. I invite you to join one of the cohorts. The registration deadline for Cohort 12 is in just a few days, on Saturday, 11th of January. The cohort experience offers a unique collaborative opportunity to practice the mindset and receive personalized coaching and consultation. Community is at the heart of every cohort. Together in a group, we go through the entire workflow of creating a book-on-a-page summary. We start by creating our idea atlas of the book. In Cohort 12, we will be studying "The Lessons of History" by Will and Ariel Durant, a super timely book in our turbulent times. As part of our atlas, we will develop the concept map for the book, which we will use to organize our notes and capture key ideas. We will each create our own idea integration boards to capture whatever ideas we have as we read and spend an entire cohort session practicing concept visuals. We will then spend the next session storyboarding, which is developing the storyline of our visual summary and splitting the book between cohort participants, as each of us will develop only a piece of the final presentation. The storyline will help us fit the puzzle pieces together in the final cohort session. While we are working on our individual pieces, we will take a short detour to practice visual Zettelkasten and finally finish the workshop with a joint presentation of our collaborative book-on-a-page summary and celebrate our collaborative learning journey.
