I quickly wanted to demonstrate to you four new features in Obsidian Excalidraw. I'd like to start by showing you canvas candy support. Then we'll look at the new context menu actions, followed by the PDF import options, and finally, we'll explore the laser tool configurations. So, let's dive in! Here, I created this flowchart that explains how the canvas candy support works. So, let's first drop this drawing into our demo canvas. I'm just going to simply drag and drop this item here, and what you can see is, while this doesn't look exactly great, it has a background color that doesn't match the background of my canvas. Let's look at some solutions. If you don't see the front matter, there can be two reasons: you might be seeing the properties, and you can set this to visible in the Obsidian editor settings to see the properties in the document. I personally don't like the properties mode, so I will demonstrate the features in source mode. Of course, you can do this with properties as well; it's just a bit more difficult. Now I’m going to close the demo canvas and open it again. You can see that this is not yet a perfect result because now the drawing is not visible. So, I need to return to my drawing. I'm going to switch to Excalidraw and change this to dark mode. Now we are getting somewhere! When I come back to my canvas, you can see that the drawing is visible, but it has a border around it. Switch to markdown view mode, ensure you turn on properties if you don't see them in the settings, and then add the canvas candy CSS class. Most CSS classes may not affect the drawing, but the "border: none" class is super useful, making your drawings more immersive on your canvas. Finally, just celebrate your work! For example, if I want to insert a link to a PDF file, I can just select it here. Similarly, this is quite interesting for mobile use cases. You can open a link by right clicking or long pressing on an item and choose to open the link, which is especially useful for embedded Excalidraw drawings you want to navigate. For instance, if I have bullet points and I want to convert this into its own markdown document, you can now just right-click on this element and select "convert to file." You can name the document, and with this, the document is added. It will resize to the original object, and from now on, it's a separate markdown file that you can continue to edit here in Excalidraw. For example, I want to import "How to Read a Paragraph" as a PDF. I want to import pages 1 through 15. You can set whether the import should go from left to right in rows or top to bottom in columns. The elements are grouped together, but I’ll show you the other way of importing. If I re-import the same pages, this time I'm locking them after import but not grouping the pages, I'll be able to easily write over this, but I cannot select individual items since they're locked to the background. This is useful, but it can be tedious to unlock items one by one. Hence, if I import the same pages grouped, I can unlock all elements with a single click, making it much easier to manipulate them later. Finally, I want to show you how to configure the laser pointer tool. You can see that my laser pointer is currently yellow. If you go to the Excalidraw plugin settings and look under appearance and behavior, you’ll find the laser pointer settings. You can change the color of your laser pointer and set a longer delay for how the laser pointer disappears, as well as adjust the decay length.
