However, when the page is transparent, the highlighter pen disappears behind objects when there is a background color or an image. Now I have three alternative ways for highlighting, so let's take a look at this other pen. You can click and then hold the shift key to draw a straight line. By turning on the lock on the right-hand side, you can keep the line tool active and draw multiple lines seamlessly. [* ](https://youtu.be/o2BD73hbUWk?t=46) The way to draw a straight line is to click, hold the mouse button, and pull the mouse while holding the shift key; this allows the line to stay straight for a considerable distance. You can use this method to underline text. The third option is a yellow highlighter pen that features a dark yellow outline and a transparent middle, which allows highlighting of images as well. In Excalidraw, when you draw two objects, you can change their layering. For instance, I can send one rectangle to the front while leaving the other behind. Normally, every object drawn with a pen goes to the top layer, but the highlighter pen goes to the bottom layer, which works well for transparent pages but poorly when objects are present. This highlighter pen behavior can be changed by turning off the highlighter feature, which places it on the top layer instead of the bottom. Additionally, I can adjust the transparency of the pen using hexadecimal numbers. For example, adding '00' means completely transparent, while 'FF' is fully opaque. Finding a balance between these values allows for a more useful highlighting effect. a](https://youtu.be/o2BD73hbUWk?t=398) [transparency to this yellow color this](https://youtu.be/o2BD73hbUWk?t=402) [is almost invisible this yellow color so](https://youtu.be/o2BD73hbUWk?t=404) [I added this one zero transparency which](https://youtu.be/o2BD73hbUWk?t=408) [means almost transparent and I set the](https://youtu.be/o2BD73hbUWk?t=412) [stroke width to 3 which is a pretty](https://youtu.be/o2BD73hbUWk?t=417) [thick line and further down I set the](https://youtu.be/o2BD73hbUWk?t=420) [outline width to one so it's just a](https://youtu.be/o2BD73hbUWk?t=424) [fairly thin outline around the line when](https://youtu.be/o2BD73hbUWk?t=427) [I do this then I get this pen that is](https://youtu.be/o2BD73hbUWk?t=432) [going to look like this and this is just](https://youtu.be/o2BD73hbUWk?t=436) [another option for highlighting so these](https://youtu.be/o2BD73hbUWk?t=440) [are I think some of the options you can](https://youtu.be/o2BD73hbUWk?t=443) [choose to highlight your PDF documents](https://youtu.be/o2BD73hbUWk?t=446) [when you have an image or when you don't](https://youtu.be/o2BD73hbUWk?t=449) [have a transparent page with these](https://youtu.be/o2BD73hbUWk?t=451) [options I think you can get pretty good](https://youtu.be/o2BD73hbUWk?t=454) [results in terms of highlighting your](https://youtu.be/o2BD73hbUWk?t=457) [PDF document](https://youtu.be/o2BD73hbUWk?t=460) [now to the second part of this video it](https://youtu.be/o2BD73hbUWk?t=461) [is pretty simple to turn these pens on](https://youtu.be/o2BD73hbUWk?t=465) [all you need to do is to go to plug-in](https://youtu.be/o2BD73hbUWk?t=467) [settings to excali draw and you need to](https://youtu.be/o2BD73hbUWk?t=470) [scroll down all the way to the](https://youtu.be/o2BD73hbUWk?t=474) [nonxcolletra.com supported features and](https://youtu.be/o2BD73hbUWk?t=476) [so this is an important comment
