As you would expect, you can link Obsidian pages; it could be drawings or documents or anything using the normal markdown links. This is done with double brackets and then the name of the page. In this case, if I enlarge this and double click here, you can see that this is a reference to a document called "A Complex System That Works," and then with the hash mark, I have a reference to the section "Gaul's Law." Now if I control hover this, I get a hover preview, and I can look at the document. Again, if I open up this document on the side, it opens up, and I can edit or look at this document. In this case, if you see this link right here or if I double-click here, you can see that the link is here, and this is an alias that points me to a reference within this document. If I click this, then I'm taken to the next part, which is about embeds. Here, I just want to show you that you can embed images from the vault; you can also embed equations. There's an equation editor—not an editor, it's simply a textbox, but you can add in proper equations, and they will be displayed as equations. You can also embed full markdown documents as well. If I open up this document, then you will see that this is a markdown document that demonstrates how you can include a table, a code block, as well as an Excalidraw drawing. I also have some front matter tags, and you can access these front matter tags like this. If you start to type "Excalidraw," the front matter tags will come up, making it easy to choose between them. For example, if I change this from black to steel blue and then close this document, you will see that the border for this document right here has changed to steel blue. For example, if I bring up the graph view for this specific document, then you can see just like with any other documents, I have the links that appear on this document right here. Of course, Excalidraw drawings show up in the bigger vault as well. In this case, I colored my Excalidraw drawings or at least some of them with yellow, so you can see them. Excalidraw is also available, or you can also search for Excalidraw text in Obsidian search. For example, in this case, I searched for "five custom colors," and I found a drawing. If I click on my search result, then the drawing is opened, and it's zoomed in on the text that I clicked on in search. Then, of course, I can zoom out and see the entire document. For example, if I come back to Gaul's Law, open this document on the side, and then open the backlinks section, you'll see that I have my drawing as a backlink here as well. I can also bring up the hover preview for this drawing. I've already shown you embeds. Moving on, Excalidraw in Obsidian is fully or increasingly mobile-ready. Recently, I implemented palm rejection in Excalidraw, along with several other features. For example, the tray mode that I can switch to will create a larger screen area by moving all the panels down to the bottom left. These features give you better usability on a mobile device. [* ](https://youtu.be/o0exK-xFP3k) Another important part of Excalidraw in Obsidian that makes it very powerful is the script engine. You can install scripts from the script library by clicking on the top right, and here you can see a whole list of scripts that you can install. There's also an Obsidian toolbar that I opened already a couple of seconds ago, and here you can see all the downloaded scripts. There are, of course, a number of other commands here as well that are worth exploring. In this case, I want to draw your attention to all of these scripts. Excalidraw also comes with an application programming interface (API), and I have Excalidraw Automate that lets you integrate Excalidraw with Dataview, Templater, and Quick Add. You can do lots of things; for example, my daily notes page includes a quote that is generated with Excalidraw. Let me just click on this. I haven't opened today's daily note yet, but you can see this is my daily notes page. There is this quote at the top, which is a drawing, and then I have my regular sections of my daily notes page. Finally, I want to show you that there are also some other customizations I've made on the Excalidraw experience that make it even more flexible and powerful in Obsidian. For example, I added a fourth font. I also created this opportunity for you to set up a template for yourself. All you need to do is create a template file in your vault, and whatever settings you make on this template, like changing the background color to this bluish color, once I save this template and create a new document, that new document is going to be opened up with that color. It didn't show at first because it came up in dark mode, and this was a very dark blue, but turning it to light mode, you can see that the color of my template was honored. [* ](https://youtu.be/o0exK-xFP3k) The other customization I've made is that I've added this custom palette, so you can add additional colors beyond the ones that Excalidraw comes with. I might have gone a bit overboard by having this many colors, but this is all customizable. Excalidraw also comes with a markdown mode, so if I change this document to open as markdown, here I can edit all the text as well as the links to the files and the equations in a markdown setting, and then I can come back and view my drawing as an Excalidraw drawing as well. Finally, I just want to draw your attention to my roadmap and invite you to support the ongoing development of Excalidraw. I still have many ideas for what to do, and I have this roadmap that’s publicly available on GitHub, where I have all of these additional features like supporting Font Awesome and Twitter embeds, enabling the Excalidraw collaboration feature in Obsidian, and implementing an OCR (optical character recognition) feature that will allow you to scan your documents automatically so you can also search for handwritten text in those drawings.
